Branding an Italian salumeria
SALUMERIA OVELLO
Michelin starred chef, Andrea Marino moved from Barbaresco Italy to Sonoma California’s wine country to pursue his passion for creating exquisite artisan salumi and Italian baking. His delicious creations at Ovello transport you to Italy and offer Michelin quality in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere.
We partnered with the brand to deliver a light-hearted brand voice, and a beautiful brand identity and food packaging design system that celebrates Ovello’s award-winning Italian craft and quality ingredients.

Cured meats come with a lot of repetition and masculinity when it comes to branding and packaging design, so when we partnered with the brand, our goal was to develop branding and food packaging design that stands out.
The simple utilitarian wordmark and gold foil pairs with whimsical patterns on salumi wraps. The repeat custom illustrations take cues from the textures found in cured meats, Italian landscapes, and Ovello's carefully sourced flavorful ingredients. The color palette is rich and approachable, and the end result is a packaging design and brand system that oozes warm sophistication.
The Art of Salumi
In addition to its artisan salumi, Ovello’s mercato offers a menu of house-baked goods, pastas, sauces, and specialty pantry items. We designed a flexible labeling system that allows the Chef to label his daily or weekly creations, while keeping the visual identity consistent.
The salumeria also curates products they admire at their in-store shop, bringing customers pantry items sourced from around the San Francisco Bay Area from select artisan producers as well as carefully selected items imported from Italy.
