Far West Fungi
What started as a small farm selling gourmet mushrooms at Bay Area farmers markets, has grown into one of the most respected organic mushroom operations in the country. John Garrone, the patriarch and founder of Far West Fungi, was officially proclaimed San Francisco's "Official Mushroom Man." Generations later the Garrone Family still sells out of their iconic Ferry Building storefront, their downtown Santa Cruz store and cafe, and still farms on their own certified organic California farm.
When they came to us to completely overhaul their mushroom tea line, the challenge was clear: honor 40+ years of heritage and hard-earned credibility since 1982 while stepping confidently into the booming functional mushroom tea and medicinal mushroom CPG space.

We built a mushroom tea packaging design that feels like it was pulled from an old San Francisco apothecary and dragged straight into the future as a Bay Area farm-forward specialty product. Rich, jewel-toned matte paper tubes ground the line in the natural, earthy world of the fungi kingdom. Gold ink on matte paper tubes gives each SKU a warmth and premium quality that commands real presence on shelf.
The typographic system is bold and the original Far West Fungi heritage wordmark grounds every SKU in the brand's decades-long story without ever feeling nostalgic in a tired way.
Every blend tells a story.
At the heart of the system is a full suite of custom mushroom illustrations drawn to capture the distinct character of each species. The lid of each tube features a circular badge design that gives every functional mushroom blend its own distinctive identity: Immunity Blend, Lion's Mane Brain, Maitake Black, Reishi Dreams, Myco Morning, Red Reishi Rooibos. Each product name invites the consumer into a different ritual and benefit. An inner liner printed with a tonal mushroom pattern wraps the inside of every tube as an intimate detail only the customer who opens it to grab a sachet will discover.
Far West Fungi has spent over four decades cultivating quality. The new packaging reflects just that — care and craft in a farm-forward luxury packaging design system.
